Boston Engagement Photography | Rachael & Robert's Boston Common Engagement Session

Night engagement photo of the Boston Common with the State House

As I've mentioned previously, my little family has relocated to just outside Boston. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley, and lived in Philly for nearly 10 years, so Boston is a whole new world to me. But I am learning to love it! I've approached 2013 as my "Boston wedding photography bootcamp." I'm working as a subcontractor for a company up here in order to gain as much experience and knowledge of the area as possible. While I know that it's hard to replicate the institutional knowledge that comes with growing up in a place, I hope that photographing dozens of weddings at many of the best Boston wedding venues will give me a solid head start.

My first Boston engagement session brought me to one of the most popular spots in the city, but with a twist. Rachael and Robert wanted to take advantage of the post-holiday decor on Boston Common and the Public Garden at night, and of course we couldn't pass up the light-wrapped trees along Comm. Ave.  It was a cold night, but we made the most of it!  I can't wait to check out their wedding venue. They'll be celebrating their October wedding on Thompson Island in Boston Harbor.

Lehigh Valley Engagement Photos | Kim & Matt's Lehigh University Engagement Session

Lehigh University Library Engagement Portrait

I grew up less than 5 miles from Lehigh University, but until Kim and Matt's engagement session a couple weeks ago, I don't think I've ever been on the main campus. As an added bonus, we pretty much had the whole gorgeous place to ourselves since we were there the week after graduation.

We wandered from one ivy-covered building to the next, taking advantage of all the gorgeous doorways, until the library opened at noon. Then we headed over to the athletic campus (known for hosting the Eagles Training Camp until this past year) to get some more casual portraits with Matt and Kim's very energetic black Lab, Molly.

I'm so glad we got such a beautiful day to meet this couple, and we can't wait for their Stone Harbor wedding in September!

Philadelphia Engagement Photos | Garrett & Tina at the Horticulture Center

We had the good fortune to meet up with Garrett and Tina for engagement photos at the Philadelphia Horticulture Center in between a flurry of weddings a couple weeks ago.  It was a welcome change of pace to be able to take our time with portraits and get to know this couple. The Horticulture Center, which is just around the corner from the Shofusu Japanese Tea House in Fairmount Park, boasts a gorgeous greenhouse filled with tropical plants, a butterfly garden, a long reflecting pool and plenty of beautiful landscaping. We had lots of fun exploring the grounds with Garrett and Tina and hearing all about their wedding plans.  We can't wait for their Tendenza wedding this fall!

New York Engagement Photography | Allison & Dan's Hoboken Engagement Portraits

Hoboken Engagement Session

• Posted by Matt •

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of joining Dan and Allison for engagement photos in Hoboken, where they first met. Dan was going to college up there and Allison was living close by so it seemed like a natural spot to capture their love for each other! Plus, the view was amazing from Dan's alma mater; a backdrop of the New York skyline in engagement photos is pretty amazing.

We started out with portraits at Stevens Institute of Technology — which has a great view of downtown New York — before venturing around Hoboken a little. You can't really go wrong with engagement portraits along the Hudson River so we did some portraits at the train station and then just wandered along the riverside a bit.

We found out early on that Dan is a Yankees fan. We debated extensively internally about this but ultimately decided that we were okay with that. We found common ground in the fact that we are all baseball fans so, with that behind us, we moved forward and did some portraits at the Elysian Fields. For those who don't know, that's where the first game of organized baseball was believed to take place. (Note Dan's Yankees garb...)

After that we hit a few places that meant a lot to them personally, like the bar where they first met.

Dan and Allison, I can't tell you how glad I am that we decided to head to Hoboken for these photos. I think you guys looked so natural and so comfortable that it was easily worth the ride up there. That sandwich from Vito's was just icing on the cake! Looking forward to your wedding next month!
